TOP EMAIL SERVICE PROVIDERS
With all the changes in the email marketing industry, the
CAN-SAPM act, and the numerous ESPs going out of business, lots of the big mailers are looking for new solutions. Many of them have tried to move to home-grown solutions, only to find that they can't do it and have
come back to us asking about solutions. We get tons of emails from people wondering what solution we use, what we recommend and if our boss, Lord Pace will date their sister in return for better rates in the newsletter. So we decided to ask our readers what
they like in order to get a better idea.
The amount of people who tried to sway the voting during this survey was amazing. It always is curious how many people who mailed out 50billion emails a month, but couldn't
afford an email address that wasn't
bighotmailer@hotmail.com or
xxyyzz@yahoo.com... and then voted for the same provider. Additionally, one of the funniest responses was from Daniel at OptinRealBig who voted for his own company because "I work there" as a reason they should use that solution. We like you Daniel, but
that isn't a suitable reason to use an ESP.
As a note, we happily removed the obvious fakes and had a real look at who y'all really use for mailing solutions and the reasons why. I hope you enjoy our list, send to your friend and keep the ADBUMb advertising revolution going.

10. OptinRealbig & Savicomm
http://www.savicom.com
http://www.optinbig.com
Savicom, the email solution formerly known as MindShareDesign has been in the email delivery business for a while, and is often the target of many of the anti-spam groups as the technology
behind "spam-king" optinrealbig. Scott Richter and his empire of email has been in the news lately for the lawsuit by Microsoft and the New York State Attorney General, but it hasn't kept him from continuing to email and provide other people with a mailing
solution. We weren't quite sure how to group these two companies, so we did it together because if the foundation of his system is Savicom, then something must be good about that product in at least the ability to handle the pure mass of mailings.

9. MailGravity
http://www.mailgravity.com
Don't know what these guys are doing over there, but I've heard that they have some really good delivery rates from our readers. I'm not sure if they are sending hookers out to the AOL
and Hotmail executives, but everyone has told me that they are getting mail delivery to these hard to reach domains. Whatever is going on over there, they are reaching all sorts of domains and audiences. |
8. Cheetah Mail
http://www.cheetahmail.com
Cheetah mail has a reputation as the solution for many of the top offline companies when they come online, and it's well deserved. They've done a top-notch marketing effort to get their
name out there, and their big-business style has caught a lot of high-paying, high-profile customers that tell their business partners about this solution. I've been trying to get an interview with Irene Pedraza for a while, and even though we shared an elevator
in Boston once, she's declined. |

7. Skylist Email Solutions
http://www.skylist.com
Down in the great state of Texas, Skylist has been around for a while and decided not to take any bull. They have lost a lot of their bulk email partners, they have slowly seemed to evolve
into a more service oriented company than before. We believe they are going to slowly work into a smaller email provider, focused on reports and service and move away from the bulk providing, although we weren't able to find out if that is really true or just
a rumor. |
6. DoubleClick
http://www.doubleclick.com
Well, yes, they are overpriced snobs who ignore the rest of the world, but their email system is still used by a lot of the agencies and list providers to reach those $100 CPM lists that
the rest of us can't afford. I've been told that their analytical systems on email delivery is something beyond any other system and if the CPMs of emails ever get back up, more people might be able to afford these services.

5. BocaNetworks
http://www.bocanetworks.com
We aren't quite sure who these guys are, but we got a lot of emails and responses that they should be named #1. It took us a while to figure that the 1000 people from hotmail were probably
the same person, but there were enough real responses that put them in the top 10. A lot of their clients had good things to say about them, mainly that they are known for great reliability, whether you are using their turnkey system or just for hosting your
own list servers. I have to admit their centralized CAN-SPAM unsubscribe database seems to be a nice feature. |
4. Zonemail
http://www.zonemail.com
Out of nowhere has come the new bulk email solution provider that everyone seems to love. I had some time to party with the gents from Zonemail, and while a bit eccentric, I've heard they
have a great solution. John from Integraclick wrote us that "Zonemail has consistently gone out of their way for me they have custom developed many features....I think a service providers true measure can best be gained not when things go right but when things
go wrong and they have always been there for me ... when things have not been as predictable as one might expect..."
|
3. Cooleremail
http://www.cooleremail.com
This is the solution that I personally use for mailing my newsletter, and I've been pretty happy with them, despite their size as a "smaller" email company. Run by the nordic team of Lief and Lars, with a little help from Lydia this email solution has been
one of my personal favorites. It's not for bulk mailing, because the cost is very restrictive and they are very, very strict about spamming and being anything but optin email. With almost no complaints against them in any of the news forums or anti-spam groups,
they've become a growing solution for many people looking for CRM solutions. |
2. Vertical Response
http://www.verticalresponse.com
If there is someone I always see in all of the conferences, its Janice Popick, the CEO and founder of Vertical Response. She may not be the largest email service provider in the world,
or even the most well known, but she's always out there trying to get those customers that are looking for personalized service and a great email solution. And her customers are loyal -- despite the overwhelming odds, her customers came out in mass and voted
for her. Most of their customers responded that they have great customer service, and amazing interface and a solution to die for.

1. TOPICA
http://www.topica.com
Topica is email. They've been around since the inception with a very good email solution and some pretty damn good customer service. They've managed to
service both small lists and large bulk-providers by understanding the different needs and problems with both of them, and it's given them a great reputation as a company that delivers on it's promises. I've used them for a few things, and honestly their customer
support does rock, and their delivery speed is amazing. If you have a list of any size, I'd try them out to see if they can work for you.
